Symptoms of ADD – What Is It?

by Anne Durrell

You will understand the condition better by understanding the symptoms of ADD.

Is ADD Existent?

One of the biggest debates about ADD is that it is not a factual condition. Somehow, a closer look at the warning signs will let you see that ADD is abnormal behavior.

There is no reason to deny a child treatment that can greatly improve their life just because of a belief that ADD is not real. ADD has been proven though medical studies to be a real condition that needs treatment.

The Behaviors of ADD

The warning signs of ADD are often referred to as manners since ADD is a manner disease. True ADD just covers one group of manners. ADHD, a similar disease, covers two more groups.

Misdiagnosis is common because many doctors are quick to label a child ADHD when they are, in fact, only ADD. This can lead to overmedicating the child and not given proper overall treatment.

Symptoms of ADD

The common symptoms to watch for are:

* Inability to focus

* Inability to concentrate

* Trouble putting thoughts into words

* Quick temper

* Irritation

When to seek for warning signs

Since the school situations involves a lot of behaving and focusing, many children with ADD will begin to show some symptoms of problems when they get into school.

Children with ADD may have trouble learning new things and may seem as if they are not paying attention or acting up often. Teachers are often the first to recognize the symptoms of ADD.

ADD can affect adults, too. The symptoms are the same and treatment is usually the same as well. Without proper treatment of ADD, a child or adult could suffer in school or work.

Treatment needs to be adjusted and monitored over time. Somehow, when the treatment is administered and working it can help the disorder to completely handle the ADD warning signs and learn to live with the disease.
