Does The Diet Industry Want You to Fail?

For quite some time, as I’ve fought with my personal weight problems (usual middle age battle of the bulge stuff actually, nothing so special). I’ve been tirelessly researching different weight loss and diet programs. I’ve tested many types of supplements and weight loss pills and have also discussed with those who have tried them. Not once have I ever found a product that has satisfied me, or anyone else that I’ve talked with, long-term. Is the problem beyond the reach of the diet pills and do these pills and quick fix diet plans really work? Does the diet industry want us to fail or is it our fault?

Whether diet pills are indeed a viable option to lose weight or if they are just a big scam is something that I’ve researched into. Who hasn’t seen ‘Judy’s (or Jennifer’s or whomever’s) Weight Loss Blog’ with their insanely unbelievable before and after photos? Are they real people or just a gimmick to make me buy the products they’re pushing? During my research I came across a study which mentioned that 83% of dieters regain more weight than they had previously lost after only 2 years. Depressing, I know. This fact makes me believe that these so called “miracle” diets are just a temporary fix in the long run. It seems that these diet companies in the guise of trying to help us reach our goals, are just preying upon our ignorance, hopes and insecurities. In fact, maybe they never wanted us to succeed in the first place. Maybe they only want us to fail harder so that we’ll pay more and more money to get temporary results that never stick. The only pounds we shed for good are the ones that come from our lighter wallets, as we line the pockets of these diet companies.

Everyone, including myself, wishes to have a movie star’s body. You’ve wished for it too is a fact. Diet pill companies make it seem like this is possible when it realistically, we’re never going to look like Demi Moore unless we pay to visit her plastic surgeon. Movie stars also have chefs, teams of personal trainers, and hours of free time to workout and burn away the fat. Now, if the diet industry could squeeze all that into a pill, maybe they’d have something, but in today’s world, there’s no such thing as a magic pill. I’ve also got some shares in a Nigerian gold mine to sell you if you believe there is such a pill.

The fact is, we have to make drastic changes to our lifestyle to meet our weight loss goals. It is tough I know, but I have to say it. We need to know the concepts of dieting, controlling our wish to eat, know why and in the end, and make attempt to reach our goals. It is quite possible though it will take time and discipline and it won’t always be easy. I’ve been making the effort and have seen the results myself, so why shouldn’t you? Jenny’s or Judy’s weight losses have been faster than mine, but remember, slow and steady wins the race. Formulate your plan and then act on it after taking some time every day. Your effort should not be just to lose weight, but to enjoy a healthier longer life. Those having kids like me will know how especially important this is. I’ll be around for a long time and actively enjoying my grandchildren (even if it’s many years away).
