Garden Mist Systems and Exterior Shades Can Manage Hot Weather

For people living in most of the U.S., the two exceptions being the Alaska, the most northern state, and the calm, moderate state of Hawaii, summers will include a period of sweltering, uncomfortable weather that is as short as a few days to as long as several months.

For the duration of the most sweltering days, many will find it impossible to spend time on the patio or in the backyard for any appreciable time. Children may be in danger of heatstroke. Those seeking to exercise in the open air may find it hard to stay out for long. And people who have energetic and active pets can’t take the pets for much time.

For gardening aficionados, such intense sunlight can end up killing carefully cultivated crops and flowers. Plants need sunlight to grow, but can wilt in the face of excessive heat. If the heat is short-lived, the wilting may be temporary. But over some threshhold the damage to the plants will be permanent with little chance of revival.

Home owners may want to think hard about how to protect themselves and their gardens or backyards from the damage caused by the worst of summer. One answer lies in outdoor shade accessories, which can be thought of as belonging to three categories. The first are the permanent shades which can be attached to the structure of the house. The second are the portable shades that can be set up and taken down quickly. The third are temperature conditioning systems, such as outdoor misting systems or outdoor fans.

Permanent structure outdoor shades encompass things like pergolas, arbors, gazebos and awnings. Awnings may be the most common but also most useful of these. Usually they are placed over a window or entrance. Both retractable and roll-out awnings exist. They have enough reach to cover large patios, and perhaps a small porch in addition to some of the garden and yard areas. Modern awnings can be controlled with a remote, so a simple push of a button can open or close the shade. The only consideration here is the very high cost of installation and maintenance.

For those who cannot afford or cannot find time to set up the fixed outdoor shades, it’s possible to get a portable outdoor shade for a fraction of the price. The best example that everyone knows is the pool umbrella. Simple, no-frills umbrellas are cheap, but accessorized ones can command a much higher price. Two other portable outdoor shades are worth mentioning. For outdoor parties and events, a canopy tent can be easily set up and provides ample benefits to protecting participants at the events. Much smaller gatherings of people can be protected with the much simpler portable or freestanding awning.

Protection against the sunlight is but one part of the solution to maintaining safe temperatures in your home exterior and garden. A thermal regulation system, combined with outdoor shades, can really lower the temperature. The most effective product is the outdoor misting system. The installation is complicated, involving the snaking and attachment of thin, specialized hoses around the home exterior. The action of the misting system sends very fine droplets of water into the air. When they evaporate, it leads to removal of heat. Adding an outdoor fan accelerates evaporation and cooling.
