Every person has been angry from time to time. I have. Haven’t you?
Anger is normal, but some people have trouble controlling it. This can create lots of negative effects. It can ruin relationships, careers, or even lead to crime.
It is important to learn to control and deal with your anger. These suggestions may help you to learn that control.
1. Close friends or family members are often understanding and easy to TALK to. Do you have someone like that in your life? Ask them if they would be willing to listen. Talking when you are angry allows you to tell your side of the story and tell why you are angry. But a good friend will be able to not only listen but also give you a different perspective – maybe something you have not thought about. Talking it out can help you to sort through all the issues involved with your anger.
2. WRITING is a great way to deal with anger. The best part? No one talks back. You have the final word while getting things off your chest. Sometimes you will be able to identify the “triggers” that cause you to have outbursts. You can write with pen and paper or on the computer – both are great.
3. Do you get so angry that you want to hit someone or just do something PHYSICAL? You really want to “take it out” on the other person for what was done to you. Instead of assaulting the person, get physical at the gym. Or even get physical with a pillow. Really let that pillow “have it!” Releasing all that energy and anger with it hurts no one but helps you to get over your anger.
4. Can you take a vacation or just get away to spend some time alone? Removing yourself from the environment that makes you angry and frustrated will give you the opportunity to see things differently. You may also find solutions to the problem.
5. Prayer and meditation work well for some people with anger management problems. Both of these activities give you a chance to be alone with your thoughts in a way to release tension. Letting go of your anger and negative thoughts will make a positive change in your life.
6. Deep breathing techniques, physical exercise, getting more rest, getting out in nature, learning to find humor in the situation, or playing or listening to music are a few other ways of getting control of your anger.
So work on using some of these ways to manage your anger. Uncontrolled anger brings lots of adverse consequences. Controlled anger will let you a happier life.
